I've never considered why the U.S. uses the cups measuring system versus the others across the world. Why don't we use scales? Those make so much sense in the kitchen.
It's thanks to Fannie Farmer and her cookbook. Also learned how to tell if the oven is ready to bake bread by how much pain your hand is in when held within the stove! I don't think I'll be using that!
Though the idea of using prayers as a timer in the Middle Ages (very few clocks!) was kinda cool.
