The first thing that came to mind when I read today's statement was Laurie R. King's ability to describe places you've never been to the point you swear you can see, hear, taste, and smell them. Her books seem to transport you and yet I barely notice how she accomplishes this. While there are several books I could choose, her book The Game, set in India, was the one where I realized what her writing could do. I say it plainly; I don't like Rudyard Kipling and yet I love this book. I'd not been really interested in Indian history but after this I did some research. Not much but I know a lot more because of this book.
And I definitely looked up all I could about Pig Sticking.
