I plan to come back to this book at some point but only when I'm prepared to gut my way through it. I would never have thought it possible that you could make a study of anime so BORING! I was prepared for an academic look at the subject; I wanted that. But his writing was dry as dirt and even less interesting. He all but killed any joy of learning about anime I had going in! This may have been based on his thesis but I've read good theses, ones that were extremely detailed yet not impossible to read. This just might be the most disappointing book I've seen in quite some time.
If you know of another book on the history of anime, please let me know! I'm desperate to read one.
