Degrees of Affection

I'd seen several reviews for this book and none had given me a very positive image. Still, the idea of this book ensured I had to at least try.

the idea is the best part of the whole thing. If this is where re-imaging fairy tales is leading us, bring back the Brothers Grimm! It's clearly gone too far.

I can see where the single page sections inserted piece meal together would work great as a website, but they make for a mess in book form. A site map (index) linking the pertinent pages together might have offset this; instead you go through several pages of different stories before you realize each fairy tale will be built on. This style also does not allow for the reader to really grow close with the characters either. I simply couldn't care what happened to any of them.

I'm sure there are people out there who like this book; I'm simply not one of them.
